The Automotive Industry Cluster of Catalonia (CIAC) is a non-profit association open to companies operating in the automotive industry, that are based in Catalonia, and pursue R&D+i activities. The Cluster does not rely on any public funding and is financed exclusively through contributions from its associate companies. Over 190 companies linked to the industry have joined the Catalan automotive cluster since it was established. This group of companies has a turnover of more than €20,000 million and provides employment for over 40,000 people.
The main aim of the association is to boost the competitiveness of the automotive industry as the driving force behind the Catalan economy. To achieve this, a strategic plan has been designed, with a series of short, medium, and long-term objectives that guarantee its development in the new industrial global framework.
On 24 April 2013, the CIAC was launched and presented to the automotive industry as a platform for cooperation and cohesion among Catalan automotive companies. The CIAC was set up with the solid base of its five founding companies, SEAT, NISSAN, GESTAMP, FICOSA and DOGA, to provide continuous progression in one of the most powerful industries in our country, the automotive industry.
The primary aim of the CIAC is to boost the competitiveness of the automotive industry as the driving force behind the Catalan economy, by promoting projects that foster the creation of employment and help position the Catalan automotive industry on the global map. The Cluster aims to represent the almost 500 companies that in a direct or indirect way operate in the Catalan automotive industry.
The Board of Directors of the CIAC is formed of the five founding companies, SEAT, NISSAN, GESTAMP, FICOSA, and DOGA together with IDIADA, SIEMENS and RELATS.

The CIAC works to increase the competitiveness of the automotive industry through the implementation of successful projects. The commissions act as the nexus between the structure of the CIAC and the cluster members, which comprise team partnerships formed of the different member companies, who work together to CREATE, INNOVATE, ORGANIZE, COMPETE AND PRODUCE. The objective of the commissions is therefore to lead projects with a view to becoming stronger, more productive, and industry leaders both on an individual basis and in partnerships.
