This mission aims to present the opportunities offered by this market and give you the opportunity to come into contact with purchasing departments of first and second level suppliers. The main sub-sectors are: die-cutting and/or stamping, forging, welding, design and engineering, plastic injection, semiconductors, superficial treatments, mats and upholstery, cables.
The automotive sector is the main industry in Mexico in terms of employment, technological transfer, investment attraction, and human capital development. Between January and June 2017, it accounted for 30.8% of total Mexican exports and 9.3% of the manufacturing industry.
Virtually all existing companies are expanding their production and/or creating new plants. Out of the total manufactures in the sector, approximately 85% is allocated to the export market. Additionally, Mexico is the leading supplier for the US automotive industry.
In recent years, it is experiencing a change in trend: assembly plants are progressing towards engineering and design centres. There are currently more than 30 automotive design centres in the country.
